Air Experience motor glider Flights are now available from the Atherton Airport over the Tablelands and surrounding area. Contact Barry via email barryk@athertonairport.com.au or phone (07) 4095 3956.

These glider flights offer both powered and gliding flight time.

Langing at Atherton Airport

Motor gliders have an engine with a propeller that are used to launch the glider and then can be turned off after reaching a safe gliding height, allowing flight without engine operating. With thermal currents in the warmer months or lift from wind over hills gliding flight can continue for an hour or more.

The motor glider, a Brasov IS28M2, is able to offer aerobatic flights for those who want a bit more of an adrenalin rush.

Flight comments from passengers seem to reflect the excitement as the engine is initially shut down, then the exhilaration of flight without engine noise, as confidence builds realising that aircraft will continue to fly after the engine stops.

A great gift for friends and family, who are interested in becoming pilots or exploring the possibility for others.

We are available only on weekends, weather permitting, and are happy to conduct glider flights early morning through to late afternoon. Gliding in the late afternoon offers very smooth flying, though there will be less thermal activity for much height gain after the engine is stopped. During the summer we are also available after 5pm as Gliding after work is a great way of rounding off the day.
